Markus, whose research is focused on innate immunity to better understand the immune system, captured this image as part of his hobby of artistic photography. He was especially interested in showing the unseen world of our closest surroundings. He captured this image to show how the stamen of a flower (Mirabilis jalapa) opens and pollen granules are released.
Markus used confocal microscopy to capture this live image from the life of a flower in outstanding resolution and detail.
