Jeffery Bowen,
Kaleidofly of a Halloween Pennant (dragonfly) (1X)- Affiliation
- Bridgewater State College
- Location
- Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA
- Technique
- Stereomicroscopy
Bowen created this image while working on a project with a colleague who is trying to track and record fluctuating asymmetry. The dragonfly was selected for this project because of its spot on the insect food chain. Bowen, whose training is in Mammalian Reproductive Physiology, captured this image because he was struck by the symmetry and beauty of the dragonfly that is exposed by creating these repeated and kaleidoscopic patterns.
To produce this image, Bowen captured the image and subsequently manipulated it using computer software. Once he began playing with the image, Bowen stumbled upon the hidden beauty of these kaleidoscopic images, which he calls Kaleidoflies.
