2012 Nikon Small World Judges Announced

Nikon Instruments, Inc. announced today the judges for the 2012 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition – the preeminent forum for showcasing the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope.
Now in its 38th year, the competition has featured some of the most esteemed names in science and science journalism on its judging panel, and this year is no exception. The judges for the 2012 competition are:
• Daniel Evanko, Editor, Nature Methods
• Martha Harbison, Senior Editor, Popular Science
• Dr. Robert D. Goldman, Stephen Walter Ranson Professor and Chair, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University
• Liza A. Pon, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology and Director, Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource, Columbia University
• Michael W. Davidson, Director of the Optical and Magneto-Optical Imaging Center at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University
Since its founding in 1974, Nikon Small World has seen consistent growth due in part to the amazing image submissions and the distinguished judges who have offered their insight to the contest, receiving international recognition in the science community, with art and photography lovers, and in the media. The competition recognizes the best photomicrographers in the world, who mix the exceptional ability in scientific imaging with incredible visual aesthetic to showcase the unique intersection of science and art.

About Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition
The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography. Participants may submit their images in traditional 35mm format, or upload digital images directly at www.nikonsmallworld.com. The first and second of 20 prize winners will receive a selection of Nikon products and equipment worth $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.
