In Their Own Words
The cell’s skeleton or cytoskeleton provides structural support, maintains cell shape, and is involved in processes like cell movement and intracellular transport of substances, among other functions. Actin and tubulin are the primary components of two main types of cytoskeleton protein polymers present in eukaryotic cells; microfilaments and microtubules, respectively. The image shows actin (orange) and tubulin (white) atypical networks in dedifferentiated cells derived from primary cultures of rat liver cells.
