Beyond the Lens: Nikon Small World Launches “Small World Speaks” Video Series to Reveal the Stories Behind 50 Years of Microscopic Wonders

Nikon Instruments Inc. today announced the launch of its new video content series, Nikon Small World Speaks, featuring insightful stories from winners, judges, and various art, media, and science affiliates of the Nikon Small World and Small World in Motion competitions.

For more than half a century, Nikon Small World has celebrated the evolution of imaging technology, scientific breakthroughs, and the artistry of photography through the light microscope. Told through the voices of scientists, artists, researchers, educators, and curious individuals who have turned the invisible into the unforgettable, Nikon Small World Speaks pulls back the curtain to explore the globally recognized competitions and the brilliant minds who have contributed to its success.

“Nikon Small World is unique in that it exists at the intersection of master-class artistry and cutting-edge science,” said Eric Flem, Senior Manager, Communications and CRM at Nikon Instruments. “Anyone who has judged a competition or placed an image or video over the years knows how special it can feel to be part of this community. Our hope for Nikon Small World Speaks is to bring a deeper understanding of that wonder to the world, and inspire curiosity and engagement in artists, scientists, and enthusiasts alike.”
Each short episode explores a personal connection to, and influence on, Nikon Small World, making the beauty of microscopy accessible to all. The series begins with featured stories from photomicrographers Dylan T. Burnette, PhD, Amy Engevik, PhD, Igor Siwanowicz, PhD, and  Jay McClellan, as well as former Nikon Communications Manager Barbara Loechner.
