Michael W. Davidson
Michael Davidson served as the director of the Optical and Magneto-Optical Imaging Center at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University. Deeply involved with various aspects of microscopy for over 25 years, he also mastered digital imaging and web development when the technology was in relative infancy. He expanded his skills to include sample growth, and staining for microscopy which included packaging DNA in to virus heads, liquid crystallinity in biological systems and the absorption of small liquid crystal molecules on to surfaces.
Davidson authored many scientific articles and books on the subject of photomicrography and his photomicrographs were published in countless national and international scientific journals, popular magazines and newspapers. In addition, Davidson’s photomicrography won awards in scientific and industrial venues worldwide.
He was also the expert behind Nikon’s educational website, MicroscopyU and his own venture, Molecular Expressions.
Mike retired in 2015 and died later that same year.
